Six Sentence Sunday and Denny's Eye Candy: Week 32

Captain America:)

My Six Sentence Sunday contribution is from my urban fantasy, Gideon. In this snippet, the heroine is being lectured by her best friend.
“We don’t have time for you to go through the seven stages of grief. You’ve already lost your innocence on the good versus evil train. Accept that the shit has hit the fan, and we’re in the middle of a war.” Darla's voice strained to reassure. “Just know you have more power than any witch you’ll ever meet, including Privilege. The only difference is he's an expert at his magic while you’re in a race against time to learn.”

Six Sentence Sunday & Denny's Eye Candy - Week 31

BBC's Being Human's vampire "Hal" portrayed by Damien Molony -- Series 4 is absolutely brilliant. I loved Mitchell, but this vampire is intensity personified (plus he's cute:).

My Six Sentence Sunday contribution is from my urban fantasy, Gideon. In this snippet, Gideon is having trouble on a helicopter trip from Chicago to Wisconsin.
Gideon clutched his chest. His ribcage felt as if it had collapsed into his lungs. He squeezed his eyes shut and counted backward from one hundred. He was falling, and his mind couldn’t catch up to his fear. Calm down, the crash won't kill you. Just maim and disfigure him for the rest of eternity.
Hope you enjoyed. Don't forget to go and visit the other Six Sentence Sunday posts, and happy Daylight Saving Time:)...

Six Sentence Sunday & Denny's Eye Candy - Week 26

Blair Underwood, still fabulous

Six Sentence Sunday is back. This is from a story I haven’t worked on in a while. It’s about a time traveller who is looking to save his father’s sanity. In this scene, John, the protagonist, is at his younger sister's house for breakfast.

Mary wiped the tears from her cheeks and then sat on the stool next to him clutching her coffee cup with both hands. Only twenty-six, she looked like she could be his mother. Thick around the middle, drab eyes and choppily cut brown hair pulled into a unfalteringly thin ponytail, she was the sister who wasn’t going to get a handle on her life anytime soon.

John didn't like what that implied, ‘get a handle’. Was she supposed to hold back her anger until it broke her in half? Or was there some other purpose to reducing her pain to a cliché?

Six Sentence Sunday and Denny's Eye Candy: Week 26

Photo of Aldis Hodge (Hardison on Leverage) snagged from the Internet. I just like him!

Six Sentence Sunday is back (so fast!), and I went into the story archives and pulled out six sentences from my WIP called The Fixer about the CEO taking his technology company public and a Securities lawyer. It started out as a series romance, but by the time I'm done, pretty sure it will be romantic suspense....here's a mini introduction to the hero...

Jake Jacobi slept with Keisha regularly, not exclusively, but at least twice a month for the past six months, which was regular enough for him. She fit well into his lifestyle. Required little effort outside of sex and he never felt guilt about meeting her at a hotel for a late night supper just to slip out of her bed at dawn.
She never asked when they'd get together again or pressured him about feelings. She was the perfect part-time girlfriend, and the perfect fuck.
Then how come as he lay in bed next to her was he thinking about Shayna Marigold, the beautiful crazy woman he'd met three hours ago who announced to a room full of people (including his mother) that she intended to make him her perfect husband?

Six Sentence Sunday and Denny's Eye Candy: Week 25

Photo snagged from the Internet by Denny S. Bryce. I find this not so much eye candy, but animalistic in its feral depiction of a body poised for action.

Here's my contribution to Six Sentence Sunday from my YA paranormal WIP...no working title yet (there is, but I don't want to say just yet:)...It's a story about a sixteen year-old girl who grows up in a small town and then moves to a city on the ocean with her two aunts after her mother and brother are killed. This is the heroine's POV. Her name is Asia.

Do you understand time? How it quivers in and out and disappears and reappears? Consider how one time long ago, my mother wasn’t dead. How my brother used to laugh. How I never liked chocolate or the ocean. Time changes everything sooner or later and I just need to get a grip on how to deal with it.

Six Sentence Sunday & Denny's Eye Candy - Week 24

Photos of Sendhil Ramamurthy snagged from the Internet by Denny S. Bryce.

It's Six Sentence Sunday. My six continues with an excerpt from my WIP, The Vampire Lust Club, an urban fantasy. Here the heroine and her partner have some questions for another vampire.
Leo looked about as uncomfortable as a vampire could look, his back pressed against the unyielding dining room chair, arms locked at the wrist with silver chains. Whitney was in the far corner of the room in her wheelchair, twirling a strand of dark hair so sharply Casey thought she was going to yank it out of her head at the root. Her brown eyes smoldered with hate as she stared at Leo. If she could stand up, she would have put a foot down his throat.
“I have no idea why you’ve done this, but it won’t work,” she said flatly.
“Don’t worry, I have a plan," Casey said, smiling at Leo.

Six Sentence Sunday & Denny's Eye Candy - Week 23

Photos snagged by Denny S. Bryce from the Internet of TNT's Leverage, various episodes. Sunday night, January 15, season finale!

It's Six Sentence Sunday. My six is from my WIP, The Vampire Lust Club, an urban fantasy. In this excerpt, the hero is working a multiple homicide crime scene in the labyrinth of tunnels beneath Washington, DC (circa 2045).

Detective Michael Pepperdine stood at the top of the second set of broken escalators and pushed his sunglasses up on his nose. The heat from the LED lighting system could dust a Stage Three vampire in twenty seconds. The same lights shattered a human being's optic nerves in less than fifteen. A pair of specially treated sunglasses and a hell of a lot of sunblock were always in his equipment bag and considered more important than a fingerprint kit, camera, or iPad 25. Shit, the only other tool he needed this far beneath the ground was a wooden stake. Old school, yeah, but he'd take the classics any day over this new age bullshit, especially when it came to hunting vampires.

Six Sentence Sunday & Denny's Eye Candy - Week 22

OTP OTP OTP - From Leverage - Parker and Hardison - photo snagged from Tumblr.

It's Six Sentence Sunday. My six is from my WIP, The Vampire Lust Club. Here are a few lines from a scene where the heroine is in conflict with the vampire hierarchy.

If the old vampire didn’t shut her mouth Casey was going to rip a chunk of flesh out of her ass. Screw the Council’s laws on killing rogue vampires. Was she supposed to just wait for the rabid beasts to wipe out every soul in Washington, D.C?
“I know what you want me to do.” Casey scooted to the edge of the sofa and looked Dr. Vapula dead in the eye. “I won't do it.”

Six Sentence Sunday and Denny's Eye Candy: Week 20

Snagged from Tumblr, my OTP from Leverage (TNT). Hardison and Parker--they make me smile.

Six Sentence Sunday!!! This is taken from a scene in a YA paranormal I will write as soon as I polish the current WIP...it's dark, though. My sixteen year-old heroine is a survivor of a family tragedy...

Mom was way prettier than I’d ever be, and she had to be close to thirty-five then. Me, I was fifteen and a sophomore at Our Lady of Stick Up Your Ass.

Damn. I thought I’d be able to get through this part without getting pissed about school. I mean, you’d think that since it was the day my mom died I’d remember her more than anything else, but nope, I remember everything about that morning. Every second, every word, sound, smell, all of it, except for the most important part—the moment she and my kid brother were killed.
Well, leaving you on that cherry note:)...go check out some of the other Six Sentence Sunday entries - always good reading.

Six Sentence Sunday and Denny's Eye Candy Week 19

Six Sentence Sunday - here you go! This is from my contemporary multicultural romance called The Fixer. The heroine is having a problem making up her mind.
She leaned forward, afraid that her demeanor had something to do with his behavior. She didn’t want to mess this up. She didn’t want to jump into bed with him, although that was a lie, she did, but she knew better. There was nothing good that could come from having sex with him, except maybe the best time she’d had in months. She put the snifter on the coffee table. “Maybe I should go.”

Six Sentence Sunday & Denny's Eye Candy - Week 16

.
Actor Alex O'Loughlin played a vampire on "Moonlight" a few years back, and was one of the inspirations for Gideon. Photo snagged from Internet by Denny S. Bryce

Six Sentence Sunday sure comes around fast. But I'm sticking with my current WIP for one last week...then we must move on:)...It's about a vampire FBI agent struggling to keep his promise to a witch.
Gideon gulped down his drink and walked over to the wall of windows. Stretching from corner to corner, floor to ceiling, they faced east, overlooking Lake Michigan. He loved watching the water strike the shoreline in the moonlight. The black waves surged with gray and white sprays that shot high into the air before vanishing into the night. He could see well in the dark, his eyesight keen in the shadows, too. And since the water at night was mostly shadows and white foam, he could watch the lake until dawn.
There it is! Now go and read more Six Sentence Sunday!

Six Sentence Sunday & Denny's Eye Candy - Week 15

Beth Riesgraf and Aldis Hodge play Parker and Hardison on "Leverage". Yep, went for a silly photo of my OTP because they are 'eye candy' to me:)

Good Sunday morning, and welcome to Six Sentence Sunday. I'm running late, so here goes. Same WIP, a vampire FBI agent struggling to keep a promise to a witch, but this is the heroine, Macy's POV in a scene with her best friend.
Macy opened her mouth to curse Darla out but she was so angry her chest hurt and she didn't think she could breathe. Rising to her feet, she walked to the window. The snow fell thickly from the sky, but she could see lights flickering and a few cars and people struggling through the streets and sidewalks below. She watched them for a long moment before she turned to Darla and said, “I want a meeting with Gideon Russell Smyth and I want you to set it up so he understands he has to answer my questions about the serial murder case." Her voice trembled, but she didn't care. "You owe me big time for this screw up and I want my payoff now."
I'll be back later with eye candy! In the meantime, go visit and comment on more Six Sentence Sunday entries.

Six Sentence Sunday and Denny's Eye Candy: Week 14

I was in a hurry and grabbed the first file on the desktop:) Ian S. from Vampire Diaries snagged from the Internet by Denny S. Bryce.

This week's Six Sentence Sunday has me still using excerpts from my WIP Gideon - the vampire FBI agent struggling to keep a promise to a witch. This week we get to meet another character - the romance character, if you will, and a glimpse of an early encounter she has with a few folks at a bar.
The little girl sounded like the wicked witch from the Wizard of Oz.  If she uttered one more insane word, Macy was going to lose it. “Who the hell are you people?” Macy flipped her hand in dismissal and turned to Darla. "I thought you brought me here to meet a snitch who has information about the serial murder case. These people think they are witches and wizards, fighting what? Demons?"
Okay, that's it for this week. Go visit Six Sentence Sunday and get in some reading today - you've got an extra hour!

Six Sentence Sunday & Denny's Eye Candy - Week 13

Ian Somerhalder (Lost, The Vampire Diaries) snagged from the Internet by Denny S. Bryce

Six Sentence Sunday returns after a brief hiatus and some reminders on the rules. But I'm still sharing the WIP about a vampire FBI agent struggling to keep a promise to a witch...
Gideon didn’t want to listen. The bits of information the deputy shared had little to do with what he was looking for. If the man didn’t scream witch, sorcerer or worse, Gideon could care less. Besides, how many times in the past ten years had he sat in a car heading toward a dead body? Most of the time there was nothing supernatural about the killings. Just some deranged human collapsing from the weight of their own fragile sanity.

Six Sentence Sunday and Denny's Eye Candy: Week 12

Photo of Croatian Model Denis Nikolic snagged from Internet by Denny S. Bryce

Good Sunday morning. Here is my Six Sentence Sunday for today. Still the WIP about the vampire who is struggling to keep a promise to a witch.
The crystal stemware hanging from the rack in the mahogany cabinet sparkled in the candlelight. Gideon reached up and touched a long stemmed flute perfect for sipping cold champagne. “Turned into a vampire at twenty-eight,” he muttered.
On nights like these, the cold, white snow falling against the black sky and the roar of Lake Michigan outside his windows, reminded him of being alive. Bathing in the sunlight, enjoying the taste of meat and buttered bread, savoring the aroma of a good cabernet, he missed those uniquely human things and more than ever, he missed the warmth of a woman’s body in his bed, a woman like Georgia Cole.
He chuckled ruefully, caught off guard by how quickly she had worked her way into his thoughts.

Six Sentence Sunday and Denny's Eye Candy: Week 11

Photo snagged by Denny S. Bryce from Leverage on TNT, my latest OTP:) - Hardison and Parker.

This Sunday I'm in Orlando during a multi-day rainstorm. Nothing but rain, rain, rain. And frankly, I'm loving it. I just feel bad for those folks who are here with families for the supposed sunshine and amusement park fair. Anyway, it's time for Six Sentence Sunday -- week 11!

Gideon (tentative title of the WIP) is coming along. Plotting is a bear by the way. But here's my six for this week. He's still a vampire struggling to keep his promise to a witch. This gives a slight hint to their back story.
An hour later, he held Rachel’s hand and recalled the day a hundred years before when a witch’s spell had stopped him from feeding on humans. Before that day, he hadn’t contemplated his destiny. Hadn’t worried about it. Killing was his art. He’d understood that with clarity since 1696—the last thing he’d ever wanted to be was necessary.
Now he had no choice.
Well, thanks for dropping by - make certain you visit some of the other authors who share their Six Sentence Sunday - there's some really intriguing stuff out there I know will hook you!

A note about my OTP - Leverage is a funny, well-acted show that uses the Robin Hood motif except with a team of thieves instead one merry man, we've got five. The slow burn of Hardison and Parker is only one of the sexier aspects of the show. It also stars Christian Kane, formerly of Angel the series and Tim Hutton (loved him for years and years). Get caught up On Demand...or find 'moments' on YouTube. Yes, I'm a fangirl!

Six Sentence Sunday and Denny's Eye Candy - Week 10

Actor Jason George photo snagged from Internet by Denny S. Bryce

Another Six Sentence Sunday and here's my six, still from my WIP about a vampire, a witch and a promise. This is Gideon, on the job, investigating a homicide...but he's always torn between the present and his past...
Gideon made his way down a narrow hallway to an archway leading into the kitchen, and stopped. When he still killed, he never thought about how much the living hated dying. It took Rachel’s magic to remind him. Then the faces of the people he’d butchered crawled into his memories everyday, all day long. The terror in their eyes, as vivid as the night he’d held them by the throat, fangs embedded in their flesh, draining their lives into his belly.
As he stepped into the kitchen, he saw this look in Alice Wilson’s eyes--although she was very much alive.
I'll be back later with some eye candy in case you see this before I finish...:)...eye candy up - but yes, more clothes than in prior weeks - but something about this man and his eyes, hat and attitude work for me. He also was the inspiration for a character I created in a short story called The Garden Party to debut later this month at Waterworld Mermaids...see last post for more info...

Six Sentence Sunday and Denny's Eye Candy: Week 9

Shemar Moore snagged from tumblr by Denny S. Bryce (haven't paid homage to him in a while:)

Wow. Sunday rolls around so fast! But here's my six (Six Sentence Sunday) from the same WIP about the FBI special agent, a vampire, who is having a hard time keeping a promise to a witch.
Gideon rushed up the snow-covered walkway, pushed open the double doors of the Tilden Community Bank and sidestepped the uniform clad body lying face down in the small foyer. A quick glance at the dead man, Gideon’s eyes moved from the teller stations on the north wall to the waiting area on the south wall, and then to the center of the lobby and a series of desks and chairs, tossed into a pile in the middle of the floor. A hard, dark wood floor, stained nearly black with blood, stretched out before him surrounded by banisters with carvings of misshapen gargoyles. It was an old building, a hundred years old, with high domed ceilings, deep and echoing, also smeared with blood.
As he stepped into the main lobby it struck him, a stench so disgusting; he stumbled into the wall and grabbed his stomach. Damn, he thought, this case was going to be a problem.
Wow. Just got this posted in time. Now, I'm off to add the photo so if you see this at 9 a.m. Eastern - it is sans the pretty...

Six Sentence Sunday and Denny's Eye Candy: Week 8

Photo of Theo Theodoridis snagged from the Internet by Denny S. Bryce

It's Six Sentence Sunday (SSS), and I'm still posting sentences from my paranormal romance about a vampire struggling to keep a promise to a witch. It's a WIP called 'Gideon' and this is Gideon's POV from somewhere in the middle of the book...
Magic had helped him control his urges for fifty years. But the hinges of the box were loosening. At the crime scene the night before, a female officer guarding the tapeline outside a dead woman’s house had smelled like food. As he walked by, his fangs inched out of their prison. He wanted to bury his teeth in her breast and feel her warm blood thick in the back of his throat. He barely made it out of the house without ripping her apart.
Thanks for stopping by and reading. Please comment if you have a moment, it's very much appreciated. But also - click here and check out the other SSS participants. It's a great way to meet new authors and read some great SSS.

Six Sentence Sunday and Denny's Eye Candy: Week 7

Photo of Gillis Martini snagged from the Internet by Denny S. Bryce.

Six Sentence Sunday comes around so fast. But that's okay. I've got my sentences all ready and waiting to share. I'm keeping with the WIP I've been using for the past four weeks. The working title is "Gideon" and it's about a vampire FBI agent who makes a promise to a witch he struggles to keep. This is a bit from the heroine, her name is Georgia.

It happened fast, like they say it does. She and Darla walked the few feet from the cab to the bank’s front door and the security guard, an elderly man with gray skin reeking of his last cigarette, greeted them and unlocked the gate. As he opened the door something shoved her into the hallway and she dropped to her knees. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Darla, in pretty much the same condition, sprawled and scrambling across the floor. Then she heard the guard's screams, a shrill, high-pitched yelp that hurt her ears. When the noise suddenly stopped, Georgia realized the guard had been screaming since he opened the door.
